Ilok and its surrounding area are known for wine cellars
Ilok and its surrounding area are known for wine cellars. In the years 276 – 278, the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus began planting vineyards and producing wine in the region of Srijem. A synonym for Ilok is Traminer Wine. The first cluster of Traminer was imported from South Tyrol in 1710. Traminer from 1947 was served at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Since 1697, the Italian noble family Odescalchi has been significantly involved in the development of viticulture in the area of Ilok. In our offer, we have those wines that we consider to be among the best.
Ilok Cellars
Ilok Cellars (Iločki podrumi) are a symbol of preserving Croatian wine tradition, which has lasted more than two millennia in the wine-growing area of Principovac and Vukovo.
The Old Cellar (Stari podrum) from 1450 was the first cellar that was built for the purpose of wine production and wine storage in this area of Europe.
Principovac & Vukovo – wines from unique vineyard positions. The vineyards are located on the undulating plateaus of Fruška Gora at the foot of the Danube.
Unique microclimates, oenologists, and winemakers give the wines from Ilok Cellars a signature that you will recognize in every bottle.
Ilok Cellars own 360 hectares of their own plantations, while the grapes used to produce wine for the classic range are carefully selected from local cooperatives every year.
TRS Winery
TRS Winery has its vineyards on the slopes of Fruška gora. Thanks to many sunny hours, hills at an altitude of 200 to 250 metres, and well-drained soils on a flat base, the vineyards produce high-quality grapes.
The vineyards are located in several locations, covering 60 hectares of vineyards. Each of these locations is specific and produces grapes which gives the wine special characteristics. Some of these areas include: Dekan, Veliko Brdo, Principovac, Vukovo, Radevac, and Radoš. The slopes of the Srijem vineyards, descending to the Danube, create the most beautiful landscapes, which, combined with a rich gastronomic offer, invite relaxation and leisure.
Wine production started in 2003. It is based on seven varieties of wine, with the most represented being white: Graševina, followed by Chardonnay, Riesling, and Traminer. The red wines of TRS Winery are Frankovka, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
For the highest quality and value of the wine, the grapes used for winemaking are exclusively handpicked.
Papak Winery
Family-run winery Vina Papak Ilok is a young winery which was established in 2014. It is based on years of work and experience in viticulture and winemaking of the entire family, particularly the head of this winery.
The vineyards are located on the slopes of Fruška gora. Their long plateaus slope down to the Danube. Southern and southwestern exposure and all-day sunshine allow the grapevine to realize its full potential and produce top-quality grapes and wine.
Amidst these vast vineyards sits a winery and tasting room with a beautiful view.
KAST Winery
A new winery which stands out with its functionality, architectural design and inspiring decor. KAST brings a new offer and quality in Ilok which is equal to all renowned wineries.
KAST boutique Winery in Ilok connects Ilok’s present with its long winemaking past. The first part of the tour shows the present time with stainless steel tanks and controlled temperature. The second part refers to the Austro-Hungarian tradition of aging wine in concrete tanks along with concrete vessels. The third part is dedicated to medieval tradition, featuring wooden barrels. The final part shows antiquity from the time of the Roman Empire and terracotta amphorae.
Ivan Knezović Winery
In the year of 1951, with a modest 600 vines, the winemaking story of the Knezović family begins.
Today, Knezović Winery produces approximately 50, 000 liters of wine per year, and the capacity of the whole cellar is 70, 000 liters. Among the white wines, the most representative one is certainly Graševina, followed by Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and the indispensable Ilok Traminer Wine. Among the red wines are Cabarnet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Frankovka which they also use to make Rosé.
In addition to their primary activities of viticulture and winemaking, the family also engages in rural tourism as part of the ‘Ana Excursion and Wine Bar’, where tastings and sales of premium and high-quality wines are conducted. These wines can be tried in a tasting room with a capacity of 80 people.
